The Black Arts: A Concise History of Witchcraft, Demonology, Astrology, and Other Mystical Practices Throughout the Ages by Richard Cavendish
I picked up this book 6 years ago lent it to a friend before reading it though. It reimerged in my life not long ago again and as it sat on my new book shelf for the better part of 6 months I noticed it again and began reading it.

One thing is true Cavendish writes from a non biased perspective even though one or two reviews on Amazon.com have said otherwise. His chapters are short but each one is filled with so much history and information you need a day or so to really fully grasp what you have learned as you will think deeply about a lot of what he says.

I am still in process of reading it but it is very good in it's explanation of many things. I come from a pagan backround so this book was a good Pagan 101 college course for me.

I continue to learn and this book was pleasantly inviting.

He writes about the darkness of the blac arts but respects it's boundaries as well.

I would suggest checking it out of your local library.

I have added this book of his on my wishlist. He also has a several volume set about all sorts of subjects that I have also added:

Man, Myth and Magic: An Illustrated Encyclopedia of the Supernatural (24-Vol. Set)

It is a bit high priced and will have to wait before I get it. But it will be a nice fit to the bookshelves I get.

He should be at a local library. Sometimes you can join state libraries. You just go online and order books they send them to you and then you send them back- like Bookflix hahaha

(instead of Netflix)

I should check in to that. There are a lot of great sounding books out of print where the sellers want several hundred dollars for a beat up old copy. I just can't do that and wait for someone to come along and sell a copy dirt cheap. It has worked for me in the past.

I did have a library card, but I don't have a vehicle so I can't get out much. I will look at what our state has to offer in the online library department.

Thank you for that suggestion.
