The Evil That Men Do (2 of 2) Empty

The nude body of the young woman lay on the running path as Det Stropper had his men search for the clothes. "She is a totally fit young woman in her early 20s with a small wound on her chest indicating a dagger was used. No signs of sexual trauma which doesn't explain why the clothes were removed. We have no idea of the victim undressed for a tryst or if the killer removed them. The sex of the killer is therefor still unknown at this time. I am now going to interview the witnesses." Stropper shut of his recorder and walked up to the shirtless young man who was crying.

"Her name was Judy and she always smiled at us when we ran in the morning. I was jogging with my buddies and she had a female friend we only saw from the back. When I ran back to my place I found the body." Stropper told the police officer to take a statement and was about to have him take a DNA swab. He didn't want the young man to think he was a suspect, but it was possible. "Do you deliver groceries for elderly people by chance?"

"Huh?" The boy looked puzzled as Stropper decided he was not involved. It was time to head back to the pit and put up the newest case.

The phone rang again and this time Stropper was waiting in the bathroom for it. "Dennis, now it is time for us to meet. I want you and your partner to go to a certain older building for this meeting. Your partner will stay in the car with his radio on and you will have your radio as well as your gun. No one else will be present or the meeting does not happen. I can hear all the calls through the radio so it will be turned on and loud. I know you would bring a concealed weapon anyways, so I am allowing you to bring your service weapon.

"Remember, any tricks and I don't show up." The phone went dead after the electronic voice gave Dennis the location of the building. Dennis called up his partner as well as the Commissioner and the Governor about the meeting. "I get to see the killer up front which will help this case immensely. I know it might be a trick, but no other officers will be present other than my partner. This may be our only hope to catching the man or having him turn himself in."

The building had been abandoned in the past year and was scheduled to be torn down. Still, the insides were not torn up and it looked like someone had just moved out with someone waiting to move back in. Stropper had his radio on as his partner waited in the car for him. He looked around the room and wondered where the killer could be hiding. "You did show up, Dennis. You also did exactly as I asked. Good for you or bad for you depending on how you look at things." Stropper could not see the man but could hear his voice which sounded very familiar.

"I should sound familiar because I am you. Yes, you are the one doing the killings. You are the one making those witnesses make the claim they saw someone with the victims. You were the one who terrified that old woman and strangled that lonely teenaged boy. You did all of those terrible crimes and deep down you know it. I am your evil side and you use me to forget about it while you are the nice police detective. I figured it was time we merge again to become one. It is lonely just being evil." Stropper could not believe his ears and asked about the phone calls at night.

"Did your wife hear them? Did your children wake up? You know that wife or ours is a light sleeper and any noise or ringing wakes her up. Now, let's plan our next killing together after we have merged. Perhaps we can do in your little friend patiently waiting out in the car. We can blame the killing on an ambush of sorts." The laughter in Stropper's head grew louder and louder until Stropper screamed at the top of his lungs.

His partner got on the radio and asked what it was. "Sorry, the man was a no show and just called my cellphone to inform me he was going to kill again. We have to try and stop him this time." The partner asked if he should go inside and Stropper told him to stay put. "He is probably watching us and will punish if we break the agreement."

"Good thinking. Now we can merge and start to kill together as it was meant to be." Stropper took out his revolver and put it against his head. "I don't think that will be necessary. I think this is the best way out for the both of us."

The partner put the flowers on the coffin and hugged Stropper's wife and children before getting into his own car. Hello, Parker. It is no need for me to introduce myself as I am you. Parker began to laugh as he drove away from the funeral. "No, you are what they call diablo. You are pure evil and try to corrupt others. I will not listen to you so go away. It worked on Stropper, but not on me as I am not logical."

I will find someone to use as I am pure Evil. I am what men and women do.

A dark story about pure evil. Is it the Devil? We will never know if it is or if it is just us.
