| We have all had at least one of these in our lives and they can be anything from mistaking a stranger to saying a gaffe to someone. I have two at the top of my mind that I have done (both while in the military):
1. I was at the desk of a senior NCO getting some paperwork and saw a picture of him, his wife and his teenager. "Nice looking daughter you have there" was what I told him to start a conversation.
"That's my son!" was his response. I had to bite my tongue to stop from saying "You must be so proud!" but I showed restraint and did not want a bad situation to get any worse. (The boy in the picture had long hair and feminine facial features.)
2. The second one is classic mistaken identity. I do have many buddies and we would always pal around at the gym and in the locker room. I walked in one day to see one of my buddies standing stark naked with his back towards me. I then slapped his ass and when he turned around it was someone I didn't know. The good news is the guy had a sense of humor and we became friends. This is not nearly as bad as the first one as there is at least laughter and male bonding in ass slapping.

| I once asked a woman when she was due and it turned out she was not pregnant at all. Worse yet, she was my teacher at the time! | |

"Kelly you are so weird sometimes.. but at least you aren't ugly so that is something to be happy about.. if he calls he calls if not I'll want to kick is A&&." I miss my nut of a dad sometimes..

| I would take my boys swimming when they were teenagers and they would wear speedo type briefs. While they were never embarrassed about it, the boys would often "salute" if you know what I mean. I would try my best to keep them in the water until the moments passed, but it never bothered them if anyone else saw their pop up tents. While I looked at it as normal and it didn't bother me in the locker room, I would see many parents of young children and would never know what to say if one of them mentioned anything about it. All I know is I would of died if something like that happened at my age back then. After a while I just found it funny, I also love the advice your Dad gave you. | |

| My female dogs also would try to embarrass me by humping each other when they went through heat. It was more funny than anything, especially when the fat one did it.
A neighbor had asked if I was going to be breeding puppies and I was tempted to say the dogs were lesbians.

| this day and age you have to be careful what you say .. people get all crazy with the PC and I'm not against things in jest. People take things to heart sometimes for no good reason. the word GAY means happy. At least last I checked... | |

| I know how that goes about being PC in today's world. I also didn't say that about the dogs as the woman was very conservative and I didn't want to start anything. (She might of actually believed the dogs were, even though they were just mimicking the movements.)
I do tend to think we get overly sensitive about all subjects. That is why I still watch old George Carlin material. He has a great act about words and how we get offended by a few of them.
I do think mistaking someone for being pregnant when they are not is the worst thing I have done as you really do feel bad about it after it is said. Once it is out there you can't take it back.
Also, my boys would invite their gay friends to the gym with them and had no problem changing or showering with them. Times do change, and I think it is for the better.

| My boyfriend was a server for years and all his "male" friends at work were gay. He had more fun hanging out with them..I think it was because they bought him a lot of drinks. I used to tease him about it. But a couple were always really good guys and if he went out for them always made sure there was a designated driver. It was mainly the female friends I have not really liked. My guys isn't ugly by any means and he has had some female friends that don't talk to him anymore since we got together. I told him they gave up he wasn't single and would not be anytime soon. I may be the jealous type sometimes but over all I enjoy when he leaves the house because it gets him out of my hair. Right now he is laid off looking for a temporary job until the company he works for picks up. Yesterday I did come home to a clean house. it was like Christ mas. | |

| If you don't like the female friends, ask them when they are due! My little nephew will be at that stage where he asks questions which may be embarrassing (Why are they fat? etc). It will be quite interesting when he hits that phase. | |
