Goodbye Old Friend

She sits on my lap as I try to drive

She begs for food when she is supposed to lie down

She jumps on the pillow when I go to bed

But the house is now empty

She loved me for who I was

She did not care when I got fat

She did not care as I grew old

She just loved me as I was

Now she will not wake me by licking my face in the morning

Now she will not spin around the door when we go for walkies

She is not there to catch the food I drop

She is not there to bark at the squirrels

My old friend is gone and I am alone

It is hard to lose a loved one like that. People who don't have pets will never understand that bond. They really are like children to us.

I worked with a girl that had kids but hated animals and would get on me all the time about not wanting kids. Used to bug the hell out of me.. I finally told her Sorry but I think this world is too f'd up to bring kids into it especially when I'm not ready. I said and if you hate animals fine but keep your damn opinions to yourself.

I have a temper ..

I'm so sorry for your loss. My dog is my little baby and I don't even want to think about what we'll do when she passes. Sending you good thoughts

Thank you all for your wonderful thoughts. I also think the above poem is the best I have written so far as it really did come from the heart.

Janie died at age 9 which is young for a Brittany, but the joy she gave me will last forever. I will see her barking at the other side when I join her.
