I couldn't agree more. I absolutely HATE it when I see kids being charged for adult crimes. I know there are those out there who would disagree with me, but they are KIDS. Maybe their parents are rubbish or maybe they are just bad seeds, but more often than not they are poor and children of color. How often do you see rich white kids in court system, let alone being tried as adults. And before anyone says rich white kids don't commit crimes...that's crap. I know that the elite private schools in my hometown had more drug and alcohol problems than my "inner city" public schools. Perhaps, if our country would invest in education for ALL children in a serious way, not just give it lip service in an election year, then our kids wouldn't be on the streets commiting crimes. I think it is telling that in Ohio, the Supreme Court has declared the school funding system unconstitutional 5 TIMES, and the legislature has done nothing. In our state, schools are funded by local property taxes. So the property taxes from the affluent neighborhoods fund their local schools and the property taxes from the poor neighborhoods fund their local schools. The results...kids in affluent neighborhoods get more money spent on their education than kids in poor neighborhoods. Is this "Justice for all"?
Sorry for the rant...education is something I'm very passionate about...in case you hadn't noticed. And I'm tired of people who want to blame poor children for the circumstances they were born into and in many cases the rubbish parents they didn't choose.
