The Easter Cat Empty
PostSubject: The Easter Cat   The Easter Cat I_icon_minitimeThu Apr 11, 2013 5:48 pm

Twinkletoes inspected all of the eggs and candies as she was placing them in their proper baskets. She heard stirring in the upstairs bedroom and told her friends to help her hide everything. "Meow, meoooow mew miaow." The other cats nodded and helped her hide the goodies and Sally turned on the light to the basement and saw the cats scurry away. "Twinkletoes, how many times do I have to tell you about having cat friends over?" Sally's husband Rich laughed and shook his head.

"Honey, the door was locked last night and no way for any person let alone cat get in or out. Your imagination gets to the better of you every day." Sally knew what she saw and went downstairs to investigate. Twinkletoes purred and kneaded on the old sofa and starred as the woman grabbed a flashlight and checked the dark areas. The cat just stared at her human and wanted to give her her two cents worth. "You stupid human. I don't have time for this as I have to get the eggs out of the house and to the children. I don't know why I put up with that Sally. At least Rich scratches my ears and gives me chicken at the table."

Sally stared at the cat and walked back upstairs as Twinkletoes mewed an all clear signal. Her helpers ribbed her as they prepared for the early Easter morning duties of delivering eggs and candy. It used to be the job for the Easter Bunny but they got tired of being eaten by humans so they quit. The dogs were too in love with people and didn't have the concentration to do this job. It was up to the cats who just tolerated humans for the most part. Many actually liked their humans even though Twinkletoes didn't quite understand it. She was a great hunter and had a thick coat of fur to keep her warm outside during winter. Again, she did love Rich even though she didn't say it to her fellow cats.

"I don't want any pets after your cat dies, Rich. I don't need the aggravation of them trying to trick me. Plus that cat hates me." Rich laughed and shook his head. He was not about to give up pets not even for his own wife. She accepted him with his cat and she will accept other cats down the road or hit the door. Sally figured she could change Rich's mind when the time came. She could always withhold her 'wifely' duties.

Sally just didn't know what to do about this particular cat. She went to the bathroom but snuck out the back door with a flashlight and hid in the carport. She then heard something and flashed the beam of light toward the sound to see about a dozen cats with Easter baskets in their mouths. Sally stood there as the cats then went about their ways to the houses to deliver the goodies to the children. "I am not crazy. I am not crazy."

Rich went downstairs and saw Twinkletoes with a basket in her mouth as well. "I know. I did love her when we got married and hoped she would accept you. Go on with your deliveries as I will talk to Sally again. Maybe she can at least grow to tolerate you." Rich scratched Twinkletoes' ears and went back upstairs as she started toward the house she was to deliver to.

"I do love that Rich. He at least scratches my ears and feeds me chicken at the table."

A short story based on my poem. I think this could be a chldren's story but would need some editing for content age wise. Then again it could be for pet lovers of all ages. cat
