Dr Gerald Mackey finally had succeeded in his DNA and genetics experiments and was jumping around his laboratory while his assistants looked at him. "Years of work have finally paid off boys and girls. We are entering a new era of curing diseases and making sure they don't get passed on to the next generations. Think of this as a new era for humanity." The good doctor then headed for the children's hospital which was several blocks away from his lab.

Dr Mackey went to the cancer ward and saw many parents walking around looking glum as some kids were wheeled into treatment rooms. Prognosis for most of them was terminal and the aura of death permeated in the air. Dr Mackey went into one room where the parents were looking at the sickly daughter as she cried out in pain. They noticed him and asked if he could find something to calm her down. Dr Mackey took some blood and told them he would send in a nurse. "In the meantime, I'm going to cure your daughter for you. I will send in my interns to pick her up when you sign the permission slips." The couple looked at the doctor as if he was crazy.

"I have unlocked the genetic codes in the human body and can fix the ones that are broken. I will just replace all of her cancerous cells with new ones that will never get sick again." The doctor showed the couple his credentials as a genetics researcher and told them to stop by the lab in a few days.

Mr and Mrs Bryant walked into the lab and saw a little girl with long golden hair playing with a doll. They smiled at her as the receptionist retrieved Dr Mackey. "We are here to pick up our daughter, Dr Mackey. Many in the hospital staff are quite upset for what we did. They didn't care that she was terminal and called you a quack." The doctor smiled as he pointed to the little blond girl playing with the doll.

"See for yourself if I am a quack. Say hello to your now healthy daughter." The couple looked at each other and then ran up to the little girl who was nearly unrecognizable with the color in her face. "I love the wig and hope her hair grows back soon."

"That is her natural hair. I used the genetics to make it grow faster than usual. She is in perfect health and does not remember the pain and staying in the hospital. You can have a normal family again." The couple thanked the doctor who gave them cards and told them to visit the hospital with the news their daughter was cured. Soon the doctor's office was swamped with people and calls to cure their children.

"Geneticon is open for business!"

The group of doctors and shareholders in the hospitals walked into the new Geneticon headquarters to meet with Dr Mackey. "You are putting us out of business, Mackey. We need to talk to you about what you are doing. I see the list is so long for people to cure their children you can't keep up with it. Why did you summon us as we are not going to give up our profits to cure people." Dr Mackey invited them in for a tour of his lab.

"That is where you are all wrong. You can still make lots of money as I have perfected this so it is rather inexpensive for me to do. I need some more space to build my incubators and that is where you come in. You see, I plan on opening this up so people can fix their own problems and even pick their perfect children. I have found the way to fix the DNA and take those bad elements out of it.

"No more government having to pay for medical treatments as people will not need them other than for accidents. Disease will be gone and so will those deficits that are created to pay for all of those poor sick people. You will have to lay off hundreds of thousands of your underlings, but you will still rake in huge profit margins. Even more as no costly operations or procedures will take away from the profit margins. Insurance companies won't have to shell out for diseases and deal only in accidents. They stand to make billions off of this and are backing me 100%." The one doctor walked up to Mackey and asked him how it was done.

"First, I take the blood from the infected person and bring it to my DNA lab. We then take out all the bad DNA strands and replace them with the perfected ones. I then grow the new specimen in the incubator tanks and within several weeks they come out as the age I wanted them to be. I can program them to be potty trained and have an education level close to what they should be. Since most of those kids have had to skip a lot of school, it isn't that much to program." The one doctor looked at Mackey in horror.

"Oh, don't give me that look. I am creating clones that are perfect here. I also cheated a little by getting the blood from all the children at the hospitals a while back to work on this project. The basic thing I had to work on was speeding up the growth of the clone to be the age of the child I replaced. I plan on doing it with adults and using a bit of memory loss as a possible result from this project. But it works and I have dozens of families who are perfectly content with their perfect little clones." The doctor then showed the tour his incubators as they nodded in agreement. "What do you do with the children who you made the clones off of?"

"Euthanize them is the nice way to put it. They are already going to die and they don't feel a thing. Meanwhile the parent is none the wiser and have a perfect little child at home. Don't tell me none of you never thought about this. We just don't tell them the full process of what we are doing. They are getting the exact child back, except they will be perfect." Dr Mackey smiled as the other doctors got on board with him. The ones who disagreed were asked to wait in a room for the others.

Dr Mackey then made a call and told the one intern to take care of the guests in his waiting room. "We have the incinerators in the back so no one will ever notice." Dr Mackey then smiled as he went over the business end of the operation.

"Daddy! I want to play baseball with you now that I am all better!" The boy gave his father a hug as he looked surprised. "He was never into sports before he got sick."

"Children do change, and so did yours after a long bout with illness." Dr Mackey smiled as he prepared for the next reunion between a parent and their 'cured' child.

I decided to rewrite this into two parts. With how profit oriented health care in our country is, don't be surprised if the future does resemble this.
