PostSubject: I love you Mom, but...   Mon Mar 12, 2012 10:10 pm

My Mom is now 72 years old and very healthy physically. However, her mental capacities are getting worse every day. She also is getting worse at driving as she has nearly caused countless accidents. I am afraid to get into the car with her as she does not have a clue.

Forget about asking her to see a doctor or at least get a physical. Mom won't hear of it as she feels fine. She is one of those people who never go to the doctor unless there is something wrong or a bone is broken.

I am also trying to get her to take ginko or some other type of homeopathic remedy to help blood flow to the brain, but she says she doesn't need it. It is only old age, and that is the end of the matter.

Mom is very head strong and it is going to be very difficult to tell her she cannot drive anymore. She doesn't like to drive at night, which makes it a bit easier, but many family and church functions happen at night.

She also refuses to let me drive, although she will let one other of my brothers to drive her car. He has his own life, and can't take Mom everywhere.

This is kind of a rant, but I do know many here have Mothers who will be getting older. It is difficult to watch someone you love lose their mental capabilities, but it happens quite frequent. I only hope I will be easy to deal with when I am her age, but I am guessing I will be just as stubborn. (I do go to my doctor annually, which is a good thing as they can detect something going wrong with me to do something about it.

I guess I should be happy Mom is still with us as I know so many people who have lost their mother's at an early age.

Mom is also a devout Catholic and even though I am a Pagan I go to church with her a lot.

End of rant and I am going to tell Mom I love her. Smile

My Mom also has all these gadgets in her car she tries to use...while driving. Mom is computer savvy for the most part, but when it comes to gadgets she gets confused. I make her go to the car salesman as he should of known better than to sell all of that to Mom.

They took care of us, so we have to take care of them in older age.

I guess I needed to blow off some steam.

Another interesting thing Mom does is use coupons at restaurants she does not like the food at. I always ask her why she goes to the place and she tells me she has a buy one get one free coupon. So buy one tub of crap get another one for free? It is funny but I just can't see spending a penny on a place where I can't stand the food, no matter how much free stuff I get from it.

I feel very very bad today as I went out with my brother and future sister-in-law and Mom was forgotten about. When we returned home she was crying that we just took off without even thinking or her. I felt so bad even though I went along to run an errand to the bank.

Mom is getting very forgetful lately and now takes everything as a slight. I am starting to realize she won't be here forever and I do not want that to happen.

I love you Mom! sunny flower

(She would never come on a site like this!)

Stop complaining No and just be thankful you still have them.

I lost Mom and Dad many years ago, I still miss them.

That is what I am meaning to say in the post. I started off as complaining but now realize it is childish. I love my Mom and know she is not going to be here forever.

I lost my father eight years ago and miss him dearly.

I guess we don't appreciate what we have until it is too late, and I was trying to convey that in the last post. We hurt Mom's feelings quite bad and we didn't mean it. It was my apology to her.

[b]I honestly can see both sides of it now. I have my mom but my dad passed 3 years ago. I miss arguing with him if that makes any sense.

Yes, it does make sense to me. sunny

It is hard to live with your parents especially as an adult. We are all set in our ways, but then we realize too late what we had.
