Mothman is one of the cryptids which is a complete enigma. There are many who don't know quite how to classify it. The book "The Mothman Prophecies" by John Keel is a must read on this subject. I made the mistake of reading it at night when I was much younger. I also remember reading a National Enquirer story on Mothman including some scary pictures of it when I was much younger. Talk about nightmares. Shocked

Some think Mothman is extraterrestrial in nature; others state it is an unknown animal while others claim it is supernatural in origin. Whatever the case, this is one of the more terrifying creatures out there. It basically flew at the witnesses like it was in attack mode and others claim it was a harbinger of danger and doom.

What do others here think of this entity?

The Mothman is one of the scariest creatures I have ever encountered in my research..I think I may have a heart attack if I ever saw him in person.. I do not believe the Mothman to be "evil." I believe he could be from another demension and I see him as a grimm reaper. His warnings are more like the Reaper in Charles Dickens :A Christmas Carol. A warning to prepare so to speak because change is a foot.

I never read the book because at the time I thought it was a joke or a hoax- then when I saw the movie I was shocked at how good it was and the story fascinated me. I have not been to the sight but a friend of mine went and told me it was cool and he is a known non-believer. What made him go I have no idea. Only he can answer that.

I do recommend the book as it is perfect for a good scare. You might want to add this to your book reading group as it will add to some lively discussions. Here are some images of this creature:

The top one is from eyewitness accounts, the bottom one is a few close encounters with the glowing eyes. I shutter just thinking about coming face to face with that thing.
