"Miss Julia, I do want to speak to you about something very important. I think you will want to hear this one out." Mr Whitley was standing at the doorway with his usual big smile on his face. He was unsettling to Julia and she flat out asked him what he wanted. "I think you need to invite me in and we can have tea together to discuss this. I have a theory that might prove most interesting to you and that nice detective who has been poking around here. He asks a lot of questions about you. Even a few about your late husband." Julia then smiled and asked the old man to come inside for some refreshments.

"I hope you did not try to say I had anything to do with this. I mean, you did see the ambulance and told Detective Darcy about it." Mr Whitley nodded as he took the glass of tea and drank a bit before continuing. "Yes, I helped you out a bit, but my mind is old and maybe I will wander into the station with my theory. I figured you would like to hear about it first." Julia smiled as she nodded for Mr Whitley to continue.

"You invite your brother in to live at your house after losing your job at the bank. He is wealthy and you know it but put up with his constant yelling at you and your children. My wife and I heard some language tossed at those boys of yours I hadn't heard since my army days. Well, it gets worse every day and you begin to really despise the man even if he is your brother. But then you realize there is a way out of this without losing the money he is bringing in to the house.

"If Harry were to disappear, he isn't dead. And if he isn't dead, his bank account keeps getting filled with a rather nice amount of money each month. You have seven years to live off that money and pay your bills plus go on nice trips with your family. Then you can have him declared dead and maybe he left you his money after all. But the main point is you will be living very nicely once that detective puts this case on the back burner.

"Now, the obvious question was how you did it. I did see an ambulance pull up and two persons take out a stretcher and bring poor Harry into their vehicle and pull off. I did see you follow them in your car. So we know you were telling the truth about making a call. But you never called 911, you called up someone else who worked for an ambulance service and could provide you with a vehicle. Your handsome sons dressed up in the getup to take away poor old Harry. They possibly had mustaches or something to disguise themselves if they needed it. I say you drugged Harry with something that made him think he was having a massive heart attack. There was probably something that made his vision blur or even go blind. You can find all kinds of recipes on that internet.

"Then your sons drive him to a different hospital that is so crowded they wouldn't notice him. You have your lovely daughter play doctor and greet him with a surgical mask on her face. Again, he also can't see and the pain is also something that distracts people. You also don't take him to a hospital room but somewhere else and kill him. We only have your word about how long you were home.

"The question remains where you put the body. But you went through this charade so you really were telling the truth about calling an ambulance. Then there is the fact that your husband dropped dead of exhaustion at work they say. You never got along with him either." Julia smiled at Mr Whitley and asked him how much he wanted. "I like how you are so down to business, Miss Julia. I am getting ready to retire and my wife needs a new washer and dryer. I don't want to have big bills like that so we can take a nice rest somewhere quiet." Julia smiled and told Mr Whitley she would meet him in his garage later on when his wife was at bingo.

Mr Whitley puffed on his cigarette as he waited for Julia. "First you want a washer and dryer, then a new fridge and then a new car. It won't end will it Mr Whitley?" As he turned around Julia stabbed him with a switchblade and then proceeded to ransack his garage. She stabbed him several more times making sure he was dead before leaving the garage.

"Julia, I am so sorry you have to move out of this place. Perhaps it is for the better as your brother is missing and that terrible home invasion took your neighbor's life. I will keep in touch with you if I learn anything about Harry." Mike smiled as Julia sat in her car ready to follow the moving van. "You did your best, Mike. I will also keep in touch with you as I enjoy your company. It is too bad you are married as you have been so nice to me."

Mike waved and looked at the house that was now empty. He then received a call about another new case to get to work on.

I decided to have Julia get away with it this time. I do like these types of plots where the family is in on it.
